Schools and the Community 2008

Winner: Marlowe Academy and Newington Estate

Creating the Future winnerMarlowe Academy was created in September 2005, moving from the former building of Ramsgate School to new-build premises in 2006. A secondary school and sixth form with a dual specialism in performing arts and business enterprise, it has redefined its place in the local community, providing a shining example for other schools.

Judges' comment:

"This was a very challenging award category with a number of exceptional entries. Marlowe Academy has won because it has gone the furthest in the transformational effects its work has had on its pupils and on the local community, under challenging circumstances. They really should be very proud of what they have achieved."
